Amanda was born in Portsmouth, Va., on July 28, 1984. As a young child she traveled with her parents while they honorably served in The United States Navy. Amanda, and her family, trekked through Virginia, Iceland, Florida, and New Jersey before finally landing in North Carolina. Amanda always considered herself a “Jersey Girl”, as this was her father’s home and where Amanda spent much of her later childhood. As a teen, Amanda made her home in Jacksonville, North Carolina and in 2002, Amanda, like her mother, graduated from Jacksonville High School. After graduating from high school, Amanda continued her education at Coastal Carolina Community College, where she became a certified welder and veterinary technician. Amanda loved working with her hands, and spent many years working different jobs, honing her skills as a handywoman. At the time of her passing Amanda was working as a maintenance specialist, maintaining and repairing beachfront properties. Amanda was also an artist. As a child, she loved to paint and draw and as an adult she enjoyed spending time with her mother throwing pots and building gardens. She had the innate ability to take the most ordinary things and make them spectacular. Amanda loved unconditionally and she was good to the young and the old. When her nieces and nephews would see her, their eyes would light up and they would rush into her arms. When her maternal grandfather was afflicted with dementia late in life, Amanda stepped in and made his final years of life as comfortable as possible. As the disease stole his mind, she held his hand and tended to his every need. Her kindness was an example to all of us about the love of family. We honor Amanda’s bravery in the face of her internal struggle and her relentless determination to persevere in a world that, for her, was almost insurmountable. We can rest knowing that she has found peace in the presence of the Everlasting Spirit and her loved ones with whom she communed and was reunited on June 26, 2022. The family respectfully requests that donations be made in Amanda’s memory to organizations dedicated to helping those in need. A Visitation will be held at 12 noon on Saturday July 2, 2022 at Johnson Funeral Home, 2685 Henderson Dr., Jacksonville NC 28540 followed by a Funeral Service at 1:00 pm, also at Johnson Funeral Home, Jacksonville Chapel.
