Obituary For Donna Aikens Lee

Donna Aikens Lee 65, of Haws Run passed away on March 7, 2021. She was born August 13, 1955 in Camp Lejeune, NC to Dave and Shirley Aikens. She was the oldest of three children and a military brat. She was primarily raised in Jacksonville, NC.

She met the love of her life William Thurman Lee in Jacksonville North Carolina in 1971. Amid some controversy they married on January 2, 1973 in Camilla, Georgia. They walked this earth together for almost 45 years. They were blessed with a daughter Janie and a son Tyrel. Tyrel added to that blessing with two beautiful grandchildren who they adored.

She had an open door and an open heart for her people. Her kid's friends became her "kids" and her friends became sisters. If you left her table hungry, it was your own fault.

Donna is survived by her mother Shirley T Aikens, her brothers Davy and Chris Aikens, her children Janie and Tyrel Lee, her grandchildren Hunter and Natalie, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband William Thurman Lee and her father David Aikens.

Visitation will be held Friday, March 12, 2021 from 6 to 8 pm at Johnson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 13, 2021 at Johnson funeral home. Internment will follow at Lee Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends and family at the home of Shirley Aikens following internment.

Such a lovely, generous, thoughtful lady that would go out of her way with kindness for a stranger. Rest in peace dear lady.

The worlds loss is heaven's gain. Donna was someone you could talk to about anything and she would listen. There was never a stranger she wouldn't talk to or try to help. She loved Thurman and her children and grand kids with everything she had and took care of them until the day she died. We miss knowing she is there already. God Bless Janie, Tyrel and the grands.

Aunt Donna was a second mother to me and like a grandmother to my kids. Her and Uncle Thurman helped fill the void left after Daddy died. And this world doesn't seem real without her. You will be missed by us every day. Give Daddy a kiss for me.

Donna I will always remember how your home was a safe place, how when my own family didnt support my marriage you did and you made me the most beautiful cake and surprised me with it. Meeting your daughter and being her friend brought "another mom" with you. You took us to my first bar. I drove 1200 miles show you my baby girl. I was so happy to see you when my son graduated from MCT and you were able to meet him and my youngest daughter. I told my children stories of you and Janie. This family meant the world to me and I am better for having known you. Love you Lee family! Kimberly Dennison
