Obituary For Gloria Jean Petty

Gloria Jean Petty, 77, of Jacksonville passed away Sunday, June 13, 2021 at Onslow Memorial Hospital, Jacksonville.

Gloria having been a veteran Marine wife of 25 years, volunteered her services for Navy Relief both here in the U.S. and Japan, logging over 7400 hours of service. Her service continued, eventually serving as Director in Japan. Gloria also had a love for Nascar where she enjoyed watching the races with her family.

She was born in Fredericksburg, VA to the late Clifford and Kathleen Cox. Also preceding her in death was a brother, James Cox.

Gloria is survived by her husband of almost 53 years, Leslie Boyd Petty of the home. Daughter, Tamela “Tammy” Sue Bunting (Ricky) of Camden, NC; son, Richard Keith Petty (Lisa) of Hanford, CA; one sister, Marlene Lacombe of Absarokee, Montana. Grandchildren; Melissa Boyce (TK) of Greenville, NC, Ashley Johnston (Tyler) of Concord, NC, Jacob Bunting and Hailey Bunting both of Camden, NC, MacKenzie Petty and Adam Petty both of Hanford, CA, and two great grandchildren, Trey and Trevor Boyce both of Greenville, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30am, Thursday, June 17, 2021 at Johnson Funeral Home, Jacksonville. Burial will follow at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, Jacksonville.

The family will receive friends, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

    Gloria and Les were ourneighbors in El Toro, CA where our husbands flew various military helicopters. Tammy and Richard were quite young as were our daughters. We shared many fun times together and will never forget our Marine Corps Days . Our thoughts and prayers go out to Les and family.
