Hilda Hopewell Bland, 97 of Jacksonville, NC, went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 2,
2023. She was born on October 13, 1925 in Jamesville, NC; to the late George Caton and Mattie
Thomas Hopewell.
Also, preceding Hilda in death was her husband of 53 years, James M. Bland, Sr.; 2 brothers, Thomas
and Ray Hopewell and 1 sister, Janice H. Clark.
Hilda was an amazingly beautiful lady who adored her family. She was a long-time member of the First Original Free Will Baptist Church of Jacksonville. Hilda worked as a seamstress for many years. Although Hilda will be dearly missed, she will remain in our hearts forever.
Surviving Hilda are 2 sons, Dennis L. Bland, Sr., of Verona, NC and James M. Bland, Jr. and
wife, Linda, also of Verona, NC; 2 brothers, Robert Hopewell, of Indian Harbor Beach, FL and James “Woody” Hopewell and wife, Maxine, of Leesville, LA; 1 sister, Kay H. Beach, of Everetts, NC; 1 granddaughter, Tina D. Antwine and husband, Steven, of Jacksonville, NC, 1 grandson, Dennis L. “Denny” Bland, Jr. and wife, Angie, of Verona, NC and 3 beautiful great-grandchildren, Caleigh and Jacob James Antwine and Matthew Pye.
A Visitation will be held from 12:30-1:30pm, Monday, May 8, 2023 at First Free Will Baptist Church, 919 Gum Branch Road, Jacksonville, NC 28540. A Funeral Service will begin at 1:30pm, with Pastor Phillip Shepard officiating, followed by a Graveside Service at 3:00pm at Onslow Memorial Park, 3280 Richlands Hwy, Jacksonville, NC 28540.
