Obituary For Jennie Mae Hood

Our Mom, Jennie Mae Hood, a resident of Richlands, permanently changed her address to the Kingdom of Heaven at 11:45 AM, July 26, 2021. She was 86 years old.
She was born in Richlands, NC, on November 24, 1934, to the late Silas and Chris Jarman.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Lee Robert Rhodes, Sydney Rhodes, Pete Jarman, Mac Jarman, William Jarman; her sister, Christine Thompson; her husbands, Harvey Gray, Robert (Bob) Hood; her grandson, Stevie Huneycutt, Jr.
She is survived by her younger sister, Nancy Morley of Utah; daughters, Jeanette Gray of Jacksonville, Helen Marshburn of Maple Hill, husband Joe, Penny Huneycutt (who with great sadness, has recently passed) of Richlands, husband Steve, Tina Williams of Wilmington, husband Kevin and step daughter Tay Rett Hood of Beulaville; sons, Buddy Gray of Comfort, wife Laurie, Bill Gray of Goldsboro, Ronny Gray of Richlands, wife Suzie and step son Lonn Hood of Wilmington; grandchildren, Ronald Gray, wife Shelley, Jennifer King, husband Darrell, Billy Gray, wife Crystal, John Gray, wife Shandi, Jessica Huneycutt, Kyle Williams, wife Jennifer, Kelli-Anne Harris, husband Jamie, Maryanne Huneycutt, Emily Hood, Alex Marshburn; great-grandchildren, Wayne Brown, Tristan Gray, David Gray, Natalie Gray, Katelyn Gray, Donald Gray, Landon Gray, Adelyn Gray, Kyle Harris, Aiden Harris, Jackson King, Chloe Vaughn, Kamden Williams, Addison King; great-great-granddaughter, Delana Brown.
In her younger years, our Mom loved playing center on her basketball team at Richlands High School. (Go Wildcats!) She cherished God, family, and was an active member of the Richlands Pentecostal Assembly. She was often found taking care of others, painting, reading her bible or mowing grass. She had a contagious laugh, a great sense of humor, and an unwavering faith. If you told her she couldn’t do something, well, she had to prove you wrong. WE MISS HER ALREADY!
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 3, 2021 from 6-8pm at Johnson Funeral Home, 2685 Henderson Drive, Jacksonville, NC 28546. A Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, August 4, 2021 at 1:00pm, also at Johnson Funeral Home, Henderson Drive with a Committal Service following at Onslow Memorial Park.

  • One thing I can guarantee my mother did well and that is giving me 6 beautiful siblings. One of which has been taken to heaven along her side. Losing a mother is heartbreaking and excruciating. We have lost an exceptional woman, but her spirit will remain to live deep within us. Mom I will always cherish the fond memories I have been given thru out the years. You will be greatly missed.

  • I love and will miss you Aunt Jenny. You were always there for us during trying times. We never forgot how you stayed at the house in Maine and consoled us when we lost our brother John, took care of Grammy and Grandad in their final days, drove for hours to say goodbye to our Dad. I was fortunate to talk to you on the phone last year - still vibrant and caring for all. you're always in my thoughts. My deepest sympathy to your wonderful, loving family.
