Obituary For Joshua Mackenzie Johnson

Joshua Mackenzie Johnson, 34 of Jacksonville, passed away April 27th, 2023 at his residence.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 6 – 8 PM at Johnson Funeral Home of Jacksonville. Services will be private per family request.

Joshua is survived by his parents Thaddeus and Jana Johnson of Jacksonville, NC; brothers Jeremy Johnson and wife Jene of Memphis, TN and Justis Johnson of Jacksonville, NC; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and cousins in Memphis and Chattanooga, TN.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Arnett Johnson and Vera Lacy of Memphis, TN, and his maternal grandparents James (P.J.) and Barbara Headden of Chattanooga, TN.

Joshua was born in Okinawa, Japan on December 5, 1988. Being the son of parents who are both proud United States Marines, Joshua lived in and traveled to many places. Regardless of where he travelled to and lived however, he always called Jacksonville, NC home. He graduated from Jacksonville High School in 2007 as a proud student athlete in football and track, and added wrestling to his accomplishments his senior year. Joshua attended East Carolina University after high school, then joined and served in the United States Marine Corps. Joshua had recently started a career with the United States Postal Service, and in his spare time he enjoyed playing video games and spending time with his family and friends.

Those who knew Joshua, even just a little, have lost a loving and shining light in their lives. He will be missed everyday by his family and friends.

Johnson Funeral Home of Jacksonville is honored to assist the Johnson family in their time of loss.

Condolences

  • February 12, 2024

Hey, Sorry to hear about this... just heard about it today. Didn't know this happened.... Condolences to the family. Not trying to be a creepy person or whatever. I've actually seen Josh at the teen center in Okinawa in the 2002-ish years. I'm pretty sure that was him.... Playing RuneScape haha. Reason why I started playing it for a short bit. Then in 2003 maybe 2004 my parents had moved to Jacksonville funny... noticed he moved here as well. Always seemed to be a fun guy to be around looking from the outside inward to the crowd of people he associated with. Seemed to always be the leader it looked like. Seemed to always be good at what he got into even when he joined the wrestling team he had gotten an honorable mention and it wasn't from Jacksonville high school it was from the wrestlers in North Carolina. Moved back to Jacksonville in 2019 and saw Josh again... I did not know he was here I said hi and shared a few laughs probably should have reached out and tried to got to know him when I got back here.... Idk why I didn't... he was just too popular. Funny we collided and met so many times but never actually got to know the real Josh. Wish I could have shared a beer with the guy. He always looked so happy....

I loved you as soon as I met you. Your smile your laugh your sense of lightheartedness. It was refreshing it was pure it was real. I'm so sorry to hear this. I'm so sad that this is real. I wasn't expecting this I know your family wasn't and I know your mama is hurting, there's no way in the world I would've thought this would happen and I would be writing this but I love you very much and I will see you when I see you... we always told each other we love each other no matter what, and you were literally like a soulmate , I'll always remember you and I remember exactly how you smell, the Pokémon cards, the video games, the hair all of it love you kid.
