Obituary For Merlita Mara Gomes
Merlita Mara Gomes, 60, beloved wife of Jose A. Gomes of Jacksonville, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 6, 2022.
We can't begin to explain the hole that will be left in our hearts because you had filled it in so many ways.
Because of you, we are left stronger, wiser, and full of love. Because of you, we are compassionate and loving to those around us.
Everyone who met Merly knows of a story they will remember her by. We will remember her voice that filled a room, her stories, and contagious laughter. We will remember the weekend fishing journeys, late-night card games, and bingo. We will remember the long talks throughout the day and delicious recipes prepared. We will be comforted by these memories.
Her generosity has touched the lives of many throughout the years. This was her passion and life's purpose, to care for those around her and remind others to do the same, even when times are difficult.
Merlita Mara Gomes was born in the Province of Zambales in the Philippines on April 27, 1961, and was the daughter of the late Pastor and Magdelena Egonias Mara. She was a member of Centerview Baptist Church.
Besides her husband Jose, she is survived by her beloved family, daughter Avegail Mara Bun of Las Vegas; sons Robert Mara Fausset Jr. of Raleigh, and Erwin Mara Vilela of the Philippines; her nine grandchildren, sister, and three brothers.
We are grateful for everyone she's brought into our lives and thank everyone who's made a difference in hers.
Merlita Mara Gomes left us doing what she loved, tending to her plants at home. A good reminder to continually grow, have patience, and take care of those you love.
You will forever be in our hearts.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 13, 2022, at the Johnson Funeral Home, 2685 Henderson Drive in Jacksonville, from 5 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be on Friday, January 14 at 11 a.m. in the Johnson Funeral Home burial to follow in Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery.
