Obituary For Roberta Jane Arbelo

Roberta “Cookie” J. Arbelo, 73 of Maple Hill, NC passed away at her home with her family by her side on Sunday, March 12, 2023. Born in Columbus, OH on May 27, 1949 to the late Robert James Clark and to Mildred Bell Clark of Columbus, OH. Also, preceding Roberta in death was her twin brother, Robert James Clark, Jr. and Richard Clark. Surviving Roberta is her loving husband of 44 years, Norberto A. Arbelo; sons, Jamar Aaron Arbelo, of Los Angeles, CA and Jason Apolinor Arbelo and wife, Carol, of Beauford, SC; daughter, Tamarah Rose Arbelo, of Waterbury, CT; sisters, Selena Comer, of Columbus, OH and Dora L. Clark, of Columbus, OH; grandchildren, Araina, Alexander, Joseph, Jaylen, Jamal and Jamir. Cookie was a beautiful person inside and out. She adored spending time with her family. After graduating from East High School in 1968 Cookie earned a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering from Columbus Institute of Technology. She worked at WBNS Channel 10 in Columbus, Ohio for 10 years before her next career with General Motors Proving Ground as an Emissions Safety Analyst. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 10:00am at Gospel Light Community Church, 222 Charles Street, Bridgeport, CT 06606. A Reception will follow from 11:30am ~ 1:00pm at Oronoque Village, 600 N. Trail, Stratford, CT 06614. Please, send flowers to 41 Federal Street, Bridgeport, CT 06606; first floor, back entrance. To the Arbelo Family, Our Cousin, Cookie, meant the world to us growing up. In 1968, right after High School, she moved in our home to help with us five kids and to go to Technical College to get a Degree. Our Mother (her Aunt) had passed away and Our Father (her Uncle) had remarried and Cookie moved in to help. The two or 3 years she was there she shared her music with us. She loved her collection of 45's. We already knew about Motown acts, and she introduced us to acts like the Chi-lites, Dramatics, Manhattans, Archie Bell & the Drells, and the list goes on. We met her friends. We got to see a lot more of her Sisters and Brothers (our Cousins)! That was a uplifting part of our young lives. We were so proud of her when, once she graduated from her studies, she landed a job with the local CBS Affiliate TV Station as a Cameralady. Cookie was the very first African American Camaralady in the USA (probably the world). After a few years there she got a better position out-of-state and there she was gone from our daily lives but never forgotten and came back to visit and then we met Norberto and the rest is wonderful memories.
