William Ronald North, Sr., age 77 of Richlands passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday evening, June 14, 2022. Ronnie was born on March 13, 1945 in Richlands to the late Rommie Otis and Mary Melton North. He is also preceded in death by his brothers, Edward, Joe, Leon, Jake, Durwood, Robert, Claude “Punch”, and RO, Jr. North; sisters, Rebecca Melton, Peggy Thompson and Mary Elizabeth Stephens. Cubas, of Richlands, NC; grandchildren, Caroline R. and Cameron M. Cubas, of Richlands, NC. If there was anyone that gave of themselves on a daily basis it would have been Ronnie North. He was such a kind and caring man and was well thought of and respected in the Richlands community. Many people remember him for his BBQ Benefits and managing the local drive-in, “Toot-n-Tell It”. He was always there to lend a hand. He was honored to win the Legacy Award in 2015. Ronnie had a wonderful sense of humor and never met a stranger. He volunteered for many years at the Richlands Volunteer Fire Department. After many years of coaching softball for the high school, the softball field at Richlands High School was named after Ronnie. He had enjoyed many years as a custodian and teacher assistant at the high school. There are so many wonderful memories that Richlands has when they think of Ronnie North but will always come back to his kindness towards others. Although he is no longer with us, he will surely be missed by all who knew him. We will carry him in our hearts forever. Although, I have been removed from Richlands now for almost 50 years, I shall never forget the entire North Family, from Mr. Rommie, and Mr. Rommie's Sister, Mrs. Eddie North Mills, and all that family to Ronnie's brothers, and sisters, and his wife, the former Becky Smith. In fact, I have fond memories of the Norths, and The wonderful memories of "The Toot, and Tell It. Being that I "left" Richlands so long ago, I was not made aware of all the contributions that Ronnie had given to "The Town of Perfect Water". One particular memory dealing with Ronnie was his capacity to make some of the best pit- cooked barbecue, Cole slaw, and hushpuppies that were even better than Parker's Barbecue in Greenville, or Wilbur's Barbecue in Goldsboro. My sincerest sympathies to all Ronnie's relatives. He truly was one of a kind. I thoroughly enjoyed seeing all the "old faces" in the pictorial homage to Ronnie's life. I "loved' seeing Ronnie with his first cousin, Clifton Mills. I have been, and still am very close to the entire family of "Miss" Eddie North Mills, be they be living, or dead. Great memories of some of Richlands' finest. May you RIP, Ronnie North. This message is from another of Richlands' native sons who "grew up" just down the way from North Town. Kirk Lanier Nicholson of NYC, NY who used to live on the corner of Nicholson street, and Franck Avenue.

I am so saddened to hear of the news that one of my childhood coaches has passed away. Mr Ronnie North is forever engrained in the fiber of my childhood. Mr North knew the value of the small things and fostering relationships with his players. He was a pillar of our community and absolutely one of the greatest influences in my life. His legacy will 100% live on in our town and the lives he has touched. Prayers for all of Mr. North's family as our town mourns the passing of a great man.

Ronnie was truly one of a kind.I will always have a special place in my heart for Ronnie and his family. He was there to support me first and foremost as his friend because that was the kind of man he was. I leaned on Ronnie a great deal during my time coaching and teaching at Trexler and then later at Richlands, it was then I truly got to know him and his wonderful loving family. We had a special relationship and cared deeply for one another.
